The Plains Busted Mugshots
The Town of The Plains says it plainly. No police department, and the Fauquier County Sheriff's Department provides service. That one fact reroutes every search. There is no town blotter, no municipal booking roster, no local photo policy. Any arrest in town goes through the Sheriff, and any adult held in custody goes through county detention.
It's a small place, too. The Census P1 table counted 245 residents in April 2020. The county's historic-preservation information notes a historic overlay district there. None of that builds a separate enforcement system. For arrest and booking records, the offices that matter sit in Warrenton.
Where The Plains Busted Mugshots Appear
Start with official channels. Fauquier offers no public jail roster you can search by name and no official booking-photo gallery. The Adult Detention Center will give limited current-custody details over the phone. Sheriff's daily reports are public, though they summarize activity rather than naming each booking. Want an intake photo or a fuller booking document? Request it through the Sheriff's records process. Commercial and news pages, by contrast, can be stale, thin, or not tied to The Plains at all.
| Channel | Photo? | Official? | How it helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adult Detention Center | No public web display | Yes | Call for a current detainee’s name, current charges, court of jurisdiction, and bond information. |
| Sheriff FOIA | Request route | Yes | Request an existing adult booking record or routine initial-intake photograph with enough detail to identify it. |
| Sheriff Daily Activity Reports | No routine photos | Yes | Read weekday aggregate and selected activity information. It is preliminary and is not a named booking feed. |
| Fauquier Times and FauquierNow | Not a routine roster | No | Local story leads only. Check the Sheriff and court records before relying on a report. |
| RecentlyBooked, BustedNewspaper, Mugshots.com, and Mugshots.zone | May display images | No | Countywide commercial pages, not verified The Plains feeds. Their dates and coverage can be stale or incomplete. |
Treat the secondary sites with real caution. RecentlyBooked describes its Fauquier page as a rolling 30-day window refreshed several times a day, which is the site's own claim, nothing more. BustedNewspaper has carried October 2024 entries, Mugshots.zone material dated December 2024, and Mugshots.com pages running from 2013 to 2017. None of them is an official town feed. A photo on any of those services confirms no present custody, no identity, and no court outcome.
Find a Busted The Plains Booking
Work official sources first whenever someone may have been arrested in The Plains. That keeps the question aimed at the office that actually holds the answer. It also stops a missed web result from being mistaken for proof of release. The wider county process, including the roster and daily-report limits, is laid out in the Fauquier County record guide.
- Call the ADC booking desk at 540-422-8700 if the question is whether someone is currently held at the Warrenton facility.
- Provide a name and ask only for the fields the ADC releases: current charges, court of jurisdiction, and bond information, along with current custody confirmation.
- If the person is not at ADC, do not assume release. Fauquier can transfer people to Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center for crowding, medical, or security reasons.
- For an existing adult booking record or routine intake photo, use the Sheriff’s Professional Standards Division FOIA path with a name and an approximate booking or incident date.
- Use Virginia Courts online services to follow the case after booking. The court case, not an intake entry, records the outcome.
The state VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator serves a different purpose. It tracks state custody and supervision, not a fresh county booking. So it only helps once the custody setting has shifted. Keep the stages straight. An arrest, a booking into jail, custody that can change, and a court disposition that settles what the case became.
The Plains Sheriff Records
No town police records unit exists to call. Police records go through the Fauquier County Sheriff's Professional Standards Division. That office processes requests covering the Sheriff's Office, the ADC, and 911 records. The Town's administrative page helps only for records town government itself holds. It cannot hand over an arrest report, a booking record, or a booking photograph.

Sheriff FOIA instructions
Ask for a record that already exists. Name the adult in the strongest version of the request. Give an approximate incident or booking date, add a case or booking number if known, and state plainly what's wanted: an initial booking photograph, an intake record, or both. The official form has fields for case number, incident date, and description. Asking for an electronic copy plus a cost estimate keeps the scope clear from the start.
Five business days is the Sheriff's stated window for a first written response. That reply can go several ways. It may deliver records, explain a lawful withholding, release only part of a record, state that no record exists, or cite a reason more time is needed. Fauquier sets no flat booking-photo fee; the rule is actual cost, with an estimate available on request. Virginia's routine adult-booking-photo provision carries a felony-investigation exception, so no request guarantees every item comes out.
The Plains Booking Desk Limits
Start with the Adult Detention Center when the question is whether someone is in custody right now. Phones are the only channel. Staff will give a current inmate's name, the charges on file, the court of jurisdiction, and bond information. Court dates and release dates stay off-limits, which the agency attributes to security. So a call answers part of the picture. It answers nothing else.
Transfers matter here too. Fauquier moves inmates to Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, and a negative answer from the ADC can mean a transfer rather than a release. The Sheriff's ADC page lists crowding, medical needs, and security as common reasons. Pin down the current facility before trusting a court file, a state locator, or a dated secondary entry as proof of where a person sits today.
The Plains Busted Activity Reports
The Sheriff's weekday Daily Activity Report is the county's main public web product. It rolls countywide activity into aggregate buckets: DUI, misdemeanor arrests, felony arrests, calls for service, and daily ADC or NRADC counts. A The Plains booking list is what it does not offer. There are no booking photographs and no person-by-person custody register in the product.
Older reports stay on the Sheriff's site with calendar navigation, so an archive exists even though a multi-day arrest log does not. Each report carries its own caveat. The numbers are preliminary, awareness-only, and not all-inclusive, the report says. An event in The Plains can appear in Sheriff-policed coverage. No official source publishes a named booking feed for the town itself.
The Plains Court and Transfer Path
Custody and court status answer different questions. The ADC covers limited current information while a person is held there. A Sheriff record request can turn up an existing booking document. Case progress, hearings, and outcomes belong to the Virginia court system, which is the next official stop. A charge logged at intake can shift as a case moves, so treat any booking record as a starting point rather than a final account.
Once someone leaves county custody, match the tool to the stage. A regional-jail transfer calls for a regional-jail inquiry. VADOC handles state prison and supervision status. None of these channels substitutes for another. For local reporting context, Fauquier crime news and mugshots shows how to use an article as a lead and then verify it against official records.
The Plains Busted Mugshots and Innocence
Treat a mugshot search as research, not judgment. Sheriff reports can be preliminary. Commercial sites can go stale. The court case is the record that shows what happened next. If a detail looks wrong or missing, the responsible agency or court is where to seek a correction or legal process.
No booking-photo gallery here. The town does not run its own mugshot roster. Official county offices hold the records instead.
